SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS (Cáritas)

Migrants have the same needs and dreams as the rest of human beings. For this reason, Caritas defends a normalized attention. CARITAS operates this normalised attention throug their Social Development Promgrams including: First Reception, Temporary Accommodation in Reception Centers, Legal Advising, Intercultural Mediation Services, Training Centers and Working with Unaccompanied Minors.

Methodology

Lines of work:
- First reception as a gateway for all those who need support. It includes activities of first information, referral and coordination with social services, occasional emergency aid, basic fundamental rights (housing, health, education, etc.), language promotion, legal advice, pre-employment training and intervention in risk situations. In addition, in this first reception they try to cover basic needs such as food, clothing, accommodation and housing.
- Temporary accommodation in shelters distributed throughout the territory. These centers are divided into centers of emergency or first reception, half-stay and long-term sheltered apartments.
- Legal advice through the Legal Network of Cáritas, formed by volunteer or contracted professionals.
- Intercultural mediation services with the support of translators and interpreters and intercultural centers to incorporate different cultures throughout our intervention.
- Training centers ranging from literacy, language, school reinforcement to the lifelong learning of professionals.
- Work with unaccompanied minors, who suffer the punishment of being treated as foreigners and not as minors.
