Empowerment training for highly educated migrant women

Participants receive intensive language training. Part of the course is also an empowerment and job training. Four times during the training an appointment with a Buddy, a female entrepreneur, is arranged to get more inspiration and increase the motivation of the students. Participants have the opportunity to work with their personal Buddy and exchange experiences how to use their own talents and approach the labor market. The Buddy has a coaching role for the participants.

Methodology

The language course is given in a period of 16 weeks, 5 days a week. The accent in the lessons lies on job orientation and skills for applying for a job. Participants learn how to present themselves and are trained to improve language and communication skills in Dutch when looking for a suitable job corresponding to their education level.

Female migrants who have attended the courses become more confidant, increase their chances for finding a job and become financially independent. The methods could be easily applied to highly educated migrants when approaching the labour market in other countries.
